Bill Whitefeather

I have been a part-time potter for twenty years. Because there are so many variables that can be explored—clay bodies, glaze formulations, application methods, and firing schedules—clay is a constant challenge and continual experimentation.

My preference is making functional pieces—pots that can be held in one’s hands. My pottery—including mugs, bowls, casseroles, and bakers—is to be used and enjoyed daily. We can get more pleasure from eating good food when it is cooked in, served from, and eaten off pottery which itself is beautiful. My goal is to make useful pottery that is aesthetically pleasing to see and touch. Yet, as stoneware, it is sturdy, dishwasher safe, and oven safe. The glazes are lead-free.

All of my pottery is handmade, individually glazed and fired to 2265º F. Because of this, there will be differences in the size and glaze coloration. This is an affirmation of the handmade process.
