| I have textiles, and specifically cotton,
in my genes. My mother, her parents, her brothers and sister and her
grandparents had all worked in the textile mills in North and South
Carolina. My mother worked as a winder, my grandmother was a spinner and
my grandfather worked in the carding room of the mill. |
| While working on my genealogy
I discovered some Scottish ancestor and this started my study of tartan
weaving. I have demonstrated at several Scottish festivals and do tartan
weaving on a custom order basis.
I started weaving about 20years ago when my mother-in-law, who was a
weaver, gave me two looms and some weaving books. This was the start of
my weaving career. I am basically self-taught but I have taken workshops
taught by some of the best weavers in the country.
My inspiration comes from the colors that surround us here in Brown
County, whether it is the dogwood blossoms or the red maple leaves in
the fall. |
