Anabel Hopkins took up painting later in life, studying through workshops with artists she admires in Indiana and other states. She has been a member of Gallery North on the Square in Bloomington, IN, and Hoosier Artist in Nashville, IN. She is also a juried member of the Hoosier Salon and exhibits at the Broad Ripple Gallery. Her home studio in the country has been featured on the annual Brown County Studio and Garden Tour. She gives lessons in impressionism and abstract art and offers “A Monet Day” of painting/lessons and a gourmet French luncheon at her Monet-inspired studio and water garden adjacent to Lake Monroe and the Hoosier National Forest. Anabel has served as President of Art Alliance Brown County, leading area artists in developing shows, fund-raisers, public art projects, a gallery walk program and many other projects.
Anabel paints impressionist landscapes in pastel and oil, concentrating on the lake, ponds and countryside that surround her home. Recently she began painting large non-objective abstracts, as well. She had a successful abstract show in 2009 and was juried into the National Abstract Show that year. In impressionism, she has won awards at shows at the Brown County Art Guild, T.C. Steele paint-outs, Sycamore Land Trust juried show and others. She was Artist-in-Residence at the T.C. Steele State Historic Site during the spring Studio and Garden Tour in 2009. She has been juried into the prestigious Indiana Artisan project. She and her studios have been featured in several local publications and she is slated to be a featured artist in the upcoming book “Artists of Indiana.” She has done commissioned abstract and pastel work and loves to work with interior designers to provide art that makes an interior space come together.
